Special Topics in Biology (S220)

Class Meets every Thursday during the spring semester: 2:30-3:30

Field Experience portion of the course:
Saturday, May 8 to Saturday, May 15 (between exams and graduation)
Yellowstone National Forest, MT & WY
 

See and study the Park's charismatic wildlife and thermal/geologic features with experts/researchers from the Yellowstone Association and Philadelphia University

CHEMISTRY/GEOLOGY
-biogeochemistry of thermal features
-bioprospecting in hot springs
-impacts of earthquakes/volcanoes
ECOLOGY
-role of fire in natural ecosystems
-invasive species in Yellowstone
-wildlife management issues such as
wolf re-introduction and bison culling (killing)
HISTORY/ANTHROPOLOGY
-historical perspectives of America’s
first National Park
-American Indian culture and history
