Home Requirements Are they useful?

 

Undergraduate students following a Pre-Med curriculum would benefit by the opportunity to work with established professionals in a Biomedical area as part of their academic training.  These proposed courses are an attempt to provide students with such an opportunity.  These courses would be required of all science majors pursuing a Pre-Med curriculum.

The Preceptorship Coordinator has a bank of approximately 35 preceptors ranging from biomedical research to Physicians with family and specialized practices. Special relationships include: -

Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia Summer Pre-Medical Internship - an opportunity for students to work closely with physicians during the months of June and July

Cardiovascular Institute of Philadelphia offers chances for up to four students interested in Cardiology to see the process from the Cardiovascular technician level through cardiothoracic surgery. This is primarily a summer program.

Rothman Institute, Philadelphia - an opportunity for a student to work with an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. James Purtill, who is an expert in complex hip reconstruction

Rush Medical Center, Chicago, IL Intersession - a chance for five minority or underrepresented students to spend a week hosted by Rush Medical School students, go to classes, have a mock medical school interview, perform simulated deliveries and work closely with physicians

Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia - a chance for a student interested in Sports Medicine to work with Dr. Kelly, who is a well respected orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee surgery.
