INTRODUCTION TO CALCULUS L132 Dr. Mark I. Liff
Office:Search Hall, R#320 Office Hours as posted, ph. 951-2879 Purpose of the course: To learn the techniques of differentiation and integration and employ them for solution of applied problems from Business, Economics and Social Science. Tests and Grades: Final exam (comprehensive) - 40% Three in-class tests - 60% The final exam is mandatory. There will be no individualized "make-ups". Attendance at all tests is expected. The percentage for any missed test automatically goes into the final exam. The final exam is comprehensive. There will be no partial credits for a problem; it is either solved, or not solved. Your numerical percentage will be interpreted as follows: A: 100-85 B: 84-71 C: 70-61 D: 60-51 The + and - signs will be assigned at the discretion of the instructor.
Homework: Problems from the text will be assigned periodically. You are expected to try it yourself prior to the next class. Though they are not to be turned in or graded, it is of crucial importance to do your homework on a regular basis. You are responsible for everything what is covered in class regardless of whether you were present or not.
Academic honesty: Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated.
Attendance: A summer session lasts only for 6 weeks. The negative effect of missing a class is magnified. Make every effort to attend every class. |
