Cathy A. Rusinko earned a Ph.D. in Management and Organization from The Pennsylvania State University. She teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and has taught management and economics at Penn State University (main campus) and Villanova University. She joined the Philadelphia University School of Business Administration (SBA) Faculty in 2000, and is an Associate Professor of Management, and Coordinator for Sustainability. Her research interests include sustainability in corporations and in higher education, and technology and innovation management. She does research in both manufacturing and service industries, including the financial services industry.
Currently, she is examining sustainable innovations and technologies in organizations. She was awarded a competitive research grant by the National Textile Center to study the relationship between environmentally sustainable practices and competitiveness in the carpet industry. In 2005, she received the Director’s Research Award from the National Textile Center. She also does research on integrating sustainability in higher education. Her research is published in journals including IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Project Management Journal, International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, and Academy of Management Learning & Education.
In 2009, she co-edited a special issue of Journal of Management Education, titled “Greening and Sustainability Across the Management Curriculum.” She is a member of Academy of Management, and was elected to the Program Committee for the Organizations & the Natural Environment Division. She also belongs to the International Association of Business and Society, and The Greening of Industry Network.
At Philadelphia University, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in management, and designed and teaches a course for business and sustainability majors, “Managing Sustainable Organizations.” She is regularly invited to make presentations at industry and academic conferences, including The Association for Contract Textiles, The Carpet and Rug Institute, The Academy of Management, and The Greening of Industry Network.
Prior to her academic career, she worked at General Electric, U.S. Department of Defense, and U.S. Department of Agriculture. She has been interviewed and quoted in national publications, including: The New York Times; The Washington Post; The Chicago Tribune; and U.S. News & World Report.
