'ALL' COUNTRIES: This is the main "Country Data" page.  The data resources on this page tend to provide general data, or data on specific topics for most nations and territories in the world.  This is a good place to start if you want to compare data across many nations or countries, or if you want general information. The resources contain a breadth of data (many countries), sometimes in broad categories (e.g., the economy), other times in very narrow areas (addresses of patent offices in each country). The data resources on this page include at least 150 of the nations in the following list:

REGIONS: The "Region Data" page includes countries that are grouped through economic associations, such as the European Union (EU) or Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other agreements. The page also contains recommended resources for groups of countries (groups defined by the UNited NAtions, the World Bank and other agencies. For example, 'former communist countries,' newly independent,' and  'developing,' developed' and 'industrialized' nations).  This is a good place to start if you are focusing on a specific economic association or economic type (low, middle, high income).  The number of countries in each region or group varies.  The names and number of member countries are usually described in one or more of the listed resources.

FORMAL ECONOMIC ASSOCIATIONS:
The Andean Community, The Association of SE Asian Nations (ASEAN), Caribbean Community (CARICOM), The European Union (EU) [formerly the European Economic Community (EEC), or the European Community (EC)], Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), Latin American Integration Association (LAIA)/Asociación Latinoamericana de Integración (ALADI) Mercado del Sur (MERCOSUR), The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Organization of American States (OAS), South African Development Community (SADC), and many others.

ECONOMIC LEVELS, OR TYPES: IBRD typology or classification is used for the 184 member nations. Others may use classifications such as Developing, Newly Industrialized, and Developed.)  For a list of countries included in the World Bank categories, see their country groups page.
