ADDITIONAL POSTER INSTRUCTIONS AND HINTS.....

Most of you will choose to 'construct' your poster using PowerPoint.  Here's how to set up your 'page' (or slide) on which you will create your poster:

(Source:http://www.udel.edu/research/presenting/posters.html)

  • Using PowerPoint Version 2007 (Vista)
    • Setting dimensions and orientation is done in the "Page Setup" option which can be found under the DESIGN tab
    • Select "landscape" under the "Slides Orientation" option; set Width: 48 and Height: 36 (to give you a 3 feet by 4 feet 'work space').
    • Unlike a PPt presentation (where you have multiple slides), preparing a poster requires only one "Slide" with the above dimensions.  Design the slide by adding text and graphical elements (see the links below for very useful instructions and hints)
    • When you are absolutely happy with your groups' poster, produce an Adobe PDF file representing the poster.
    • The Adobe PDF file is produced by selecting the "print" option and choosign ADOBE PDF option (this will save it as a pdf file).

MORE INFORMATION:

Each group of 4 students will work together to produce a group poster (Using PowerPoint: Instructions above).

Groups will create their posters and ELECTRONICALLY present (in groups and in less than 10 minutes, and that includes questions) them in Hay 201 according to the dates listed on the lab syllabus.  That’s correct…NO POSTERS WILL BE PRINTED OUT.  Rather, you will project you posters onto the SMARTBOARD in Hay201 (Saves paper and ink).

At the top of this webpage is the grading rubric that will be used. YOU MUST PRACTICE AS A GROUP MANY TIMES BEFORE YOUR REAL PRESENTATION (get together for an hour or two several days before the BIG DAY).  All members of the group must assist in the presentation (e.g., one student walks through the Methods and Materials, another student presents the Results, etc).

Sigma Xi Student Symposium at St. Joseph's University in April 2008
