Nonwovens

The nonwovens lab at Philadelphia University was created by Robert Wagner in the late 1970's.  It contains short staple web forming equipment as well as bonding equipment, arranged in a modular manner for versatility.

The web forming equipment consists of:

• A 36 inch wide Hollingsworth card, which utilizes a drum to make webs.  The card also has a 12 inch wide crosslapper.

• A 36 inch wide Rando Webber air laid unit.

• A Voith Allis beater and a Williams 12 inch squared sheet former for producing wet laid samples.

The web bonding equipment consists of:

• A 12 inch wide James Hunter Fiberlocker needlepunch.
• An 18 inch wide Tsuji Senki Kogyo through air oven.
• A 20 inch wide Kleinewefers calender
• A 24 inch wide Proctor & Schwartz latex pad bath.

The lab is available for research and development as well as limited production runs.

Some of the materials produced in the nonwovens lab consist of fabrics containing turkey feather fibers, peanut hull fibers, and shredded plastic shopping bags.
