Environmental Science for non-Science Major.
Catalog description.
Environmental
Science is the study of how organism and the natural
environment interact. Critical issues that affect our day by
day
lives as a citizen of the EARTH such as clean drinking water,
soils, pesticides, urban biogeochemistry, energy availability,
global
changes, acid rain and recycling are explored from ecological,
chemical, social, and political perspectives in a local,
national and international context. Each lecture section meets
3 hours per week and all students are required to complete a
hands-on environmental project
culminating in a PowerPoint presentation to their class. This
is a general education course that supports the Philadelphia
University mission
to develop writing, information literacy,
and scientific problem-solving skills. Then teamwork is
critical in course delivery.
All instructors coordinate designated in-class activities with the
Paul Gutman library
and Learning and Advising Center, and
environmental project.
Students will tackle a real-life
environmental problems in a professional manner using critical
thinking and
analytical skills, library research skills,
teamwork and presentation skills.
