Professor Clara Henry oversees
Fashion Design, the largest enrolled program in the
School of Engineering and Textiles. As director and chair, her responsibilities are wide-ranging and include departmental academic strategies, curriculum development, faculty management and development, and student advisement.
In addition, Professor Henry has developed successful study abroad programs for
fashion design students overseas and was responsible for the donation of a
state-of-the-art fashion design CAD lab. During her tenure with Philadelphia
University, the program has grown and achieved international recognition. As a
complement to this growth, the annual fashion show — held at the prestigious
Academy of Music — attracts sold-out audiences each Spring.
With more than 25 years of apparel industry experience, Professor Henry has
served as vice president of design and product development for apparel
manufacturers, worked as a fashion designer and as a fashion writer. As an
industry consultant, she has served in many capacities and has lent her
expertise to major apparel companies and published specifications for apparel
production. Recently, she advised the Royal Government of Thailand's Department
of Export Promotion and developed a fashion design curriculum to enhance
their global presence in the apparel industry.
A world traveler with a distinctly global perspective, Professor Henry is active
in many organizations.
