Kurmanjan Datka

Home Up

Kurmanjan Datka was an outstanding Kyrgyz stateswoman (1811-1907).
Born into a simple nomad family  of the Mongush clan in the Alai mountains, at the age of 18 she was given in an arranged marriage to a man whom she didn't see until her wedding day - when she met him, she didn't like him and after one day, she broke with tradition and returned home - deciding to stay with her father in his yurt.
