KYRGYZSTAN: 
Status of Law and Violence Against Women

 

Article 154:

(1) Entering into actual marriage relationships with the person who hasn’t met the marriage age is subject to punishment as imprisonment up to three years.

(2) Entering into actual marriage relationships with the person who hasn’t reached the age of 16 or forcing him/her to enter into such relationships is subject to punishment as imprisonment up to Five years.

(3) Kidnapping a person, who hadn’t reached the age of 16, in order to enter into factual marriage relationship is subject to imprisonment from 3-7 years

Article 155: 

    “Forcing a woman to marry or to continue a marriage or kidnapping her in order to marry without her consent, i.e., standing in the way of marriage (impediment) is subject of punishment as fine of 100 to 200 wages per month or imprisonment up to five years.

Article 8:

    “Impediment on exercising gender equality policy:  People’s behavior based on customary law, traditions and culture, which contradicts the requirements of this law, should be considered as an impediment to exercising  the gender equality policy.  Those customary norms, traditions, and cultures that contain elements of gender discrimination are not supported.
