Preventing Human Trafficking Project in Kyrgyzstan   www.winrock.org

In fall 2003, Winrock International began a two-year project to prevent human trafficking in Kyrgyzstan with support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The purpose of the “Preventing Human Trafficking Project” (PHT) is to increase the ability of individuals and institutions in Kyrgyzstan to combat human trafficking.  Winrock’s project has the following two objectives:   -  To contribute to the prevention of human trafficking by strengthening the capacity of local NGOs both to conduct public outreach and to provide relevant training on legitimate alternatives to offers of work abroad;  -  To contribute to the protection of victims of human trafficking through development of appropriate victim assistance services.

                           Institute For Regional Studies:       

     The Institute for Regional Studies [IFRS] is a non-governmental organization founded in Kyrgyzstan in November 1994 as The Peace Research Center Kyrgyzstan. The IFRS is committed to supporting the democratic process in Central Asia. A group of academics carries out practical research, organizes seminars and conferences, and issues articles and books. In order to provide an effective mechanism for change in society, training programs for teachers, university students and secondary school children are conducted dealing with issues of citizenship.   
     The IFRS’s activities are focused on helping to cultivate a sense of citizenship amongst all the peoples of the region. It provides broad access to relevant information previously difficult to acquire in Central Asia, and distributes materials on democracy widely and freely. Thus it aspires to stimulate citizens to participate in public life with the ultimate aim to enhance stability and develop civil society in the region.

Direction of the organization’s activity: supporting and creating of good conditions for sustainable social-economic, development, protection of human rights and promotion of interests of the youth; forming of world view for the youth towards religious tolerance and promotion of peace, and to life without war, conflicts, violence, but to healthy lifestyle.
