MGMT490 - Business Policy

Business Policy is the capstone course for all business majors, normally taken at the end of the senior year after all other core cases have been completed.

In B171, we study the strategies developed by the top managers of companies to successfully compete within their industries.  Each week, we study some of the theoretical underpinnings of strategic planning.  We also review actual companies, using case studies and contemporary articles about companies "in the news."  In that way, we bring the theory to life.

In addition to class discussion and written cases, students work in teams to study the strategy of an actual company that is in the news, and present their findings to the class.

The course objectives are to integrate the materials learned in all the other business classes; to understand how companies actually determine their future direction; and to reinforce the knowledge and skills that will be required to successfully transition to the workforce or to graduate study.
