COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to utilize all the educational experience
a student has obtained, by the development and realization of a cohesive
and marketable collection of garments.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
COURSE OBJECTIVES
A. To develop a collection from one point of inspiration.
B. To use drawing skills in communicating ideas.
C. To use pattern making, draping and construction skills in the execution
of ideas.
D. To present the collection of clothing which recognizes current market
trends and consumer needs.
E. To professionally present a completed collection.
F. To develop a portfolio that can serve for interviews.
G. To instill the importance of meeting deadlines.
COURSE
PROCEDURES: A pre-semester assignment
will be mailed to all students pre-registered for this course.
A. Due dates for assignments will
be met.
B. Student will make a visual and oral presentation of the research
on source of inspiration.
C. Student will submit a minimum of twenty (20) sketches (front and
back) with swatches to be reviewed with the instructor and one other
design faculty member or outside critic.
D. Three (3) sketches will be chosen and constructed using drafting,
draping or both.
E. Three (3) muslins will be sewn, fitted and presented in accordance
with department standards for muslins standards.
F. Three (3) garments will be sewn, fitted, and presented
G. Drawings and flats will brought to class daily.
H. A daily journal is required and brought to class daily.
-At the close of class the student will enter a brief recording
of the day’s progress.
-Five (5) minutes will be reserved at the end of class for the journal entry.
-The journal should serve as a recording for ideas, fabric swatches, receipts
for future costing purposes.
- I t’s an opportunity to record personal and practical development,
which can also include questions or notes for instructors and critics.
I. A portfolio of ten(10) illustrations will be prepared and presented.
Three(3) of these will be those of the executed garments.
J. The collection will be presented at a final critique. At this time
the garments will be appropriately accessorized. Also at this same
time the student will submit:
a cutter’s must
a cost sheet
a spec sheet with mechanical sketches
a final correct pattern for each piece in the collection
a written research report in the style of a journalist (in the third person)
a self evaluation.

STANDARDS:
Personal integrity in coursework: All coursework, assignments, projects
and tests shall be the sole work of the student presenting the work
or taking the test. Plagiarism is a serious offense and students are
reminded to give appropriate credit for any portion of another person's
ideas or writings with proper citations. Plagiarism as cited in the
student handbook, will be dealt with accordingly.
University property: Sewing machines, irons, ironing boards, dressforms,
and faculty sewing samples are University property for the use of students
enrolled in the Fashion Design courses only. This property is to be
used in the labs and not removed for any purpose. Violations will be
reported to the Student Conduct Committee.
Retention of student work: Any student work not retrieved by the end
of the semester will be held only through the first month on the next
semester. It is the student's responsibility to retrieve his/her work.
C or better requirement. A grade of "C" or better must be
achieved in T925.
Prerequisites: A grade of "C" or better grade in T921 Draping
Design and Construction
EVALUATION STANDARDS:
A. Resource and originality will be reflected in final grade.
B. Accuracy and neatness will be stressed, expected and reflected
in final grade.
C. Class attendance is expected.
More than two (2) absences will lower grade.
Arriving late or leaving class early is unacceptable.
Three(3) of these will count as one(1) absence.
D. Assignments are due on time.
Late work will not be accepted.
Incomplete work is unacceptable and will result in failure.
E.Garments will not be graded that have not been sewn in the presence
of the instructor.
GRADE EVUALATION:
10% Attendance and class preparation
05% Trendboard and Oral presentation
10% Portfolio
25% Artistic research, interpretation and application
25% Technical research, interpretation and application
25% Final presentation
