Evaluation:
The entire grade will be based on a Midterm & Final Examination. This is a
Credit/ No Credit course. An average grade of 70 or above must be obtained to
receive credit for the course.

Policies:
The Course is a self-study experience. Students are expected to read the
designated textbook chapters and do the exercises in the book. The test
will be based on the Textbook material. Failure to take the exams will result in
a grade of “No Credit” for the course. Academic dishonesty such as cheating
on the Final Examination will result in receiving a grade of “No Credit” for
the course and may result in further disciplinary action as outlined in the PU Student
Handbook. Course

Medical Terminology
(0-1-1) This
independent study, competency based course covers the structure and meaning of
basic medical terminology for students entering the health professions.
Independent reading, workbook exercises, and interactive computer software are
the learning modalities utilized.
Testing:
Midterm & final exam consisting of approximately 60-100 multiple choice,
true false, case studies and matching questions. Course
Goals: 1.
Students completing this course will be able to
analyze medical terms by dividing these words into their component parts. 2.
Students completing this course will be able to
define common medical terms relating to body structure, organ systems, diseases,
tests, therapies, practitioners, and surgical and other medical procedures. Learning
Performance Objectives: Students successfully completing this course will
be able to: 1.
Given a list of medical words, identify (underline)
the root, prefix, suffix, combining vowel, and combining form, or define a root,
prefix, or suffix. 2.
Define (choose or match the correct meaning) terms
relating to the organizational structure of the body including position,
direction, region, and plane. 3.
List the organs contained in the cranial, thoracic,
abdominal and pelvic body cavities. 4.
Define (choose or match the correct meaning) words
relating the various organ systems of the body including the nervous,
respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, , endocrine, immune, musculoskeletal, and
digestive systems. 5.
