Exercise Directions

  

Welcome to the MC16 Application Software Credit by Exam Exercise Directions. The following are the directions for testing out of the MC 16 Application Software course on the Windows platform using MS Office. The Test should take about an hour, you may take longer if needed. Any hardcopy printouts that are required should be turned in to Dr. Randall's attention c/o of the ITEC Center. Make sure to give Esther Hannon (Instructional Technology Program Department Secretary) your receipt showing you paid the Business Office for the Test Out. The activities listed below constitute the examination. You have two hours to complete the exam. You must score an 80% or above to pass the examination. If you complete the activities successfully, you will successfully complete the credit by examination for MC 16. Good Luck!

 

You are asked to:

 

For Word Processing:

 

        • Download the MC16 Text Editing web page and open it in MS Word.
        • From the text provided, create two sets of lists - one unordered and one ordered.
        • Find a picture of the earth (either in the clip art gallery or on the WWW) and insert before the first list.
        • Insert a horizontal line between the first and second list
        • Insert a header with your name and date with right justification.
        • Reformat the finished document as two columns of text.
        • Submit as an attachment (with your other attachments) to your email indicating that you have finished the exam

 

 

For Spreadsheet:

 

        • Download the selected spreadsheet data.
        • Enter formula to total each individual trainee's score.
        • Enter formula to average each trainee's score.
        • Enter formula to determine each trainee's "course rating" based on average score calculated and score key provided.
        • Add a row between the Total Group row and the Key row.
        • Add a new column between Average and Course Rating
        • Delete a row between the Title Row and the Headings Row.
        • Submit the finished spreadsheet as an attachment (with your other attachments) to your email indicating that you have finished the exam.

 

 

For Presentation Design:

 

        • Create a minimum of five slides using MS Powerpoint
        • Create a background style to be used for all slide frames.
        • Insert two pictures in the Powerpoint presentation. Pictures may be from the clip art gallery, the world wide web or selected graphics. Remember, insert as pictures in minimum of two slides.
        • Create a title slide.
        • Create a slide with an ordered list and set animation to progressively disclose each item of the list.
        • Create a slide with an unordered list and set animation with all points of list disclosed simultaneously.
        • Insert an image of a computer from the clip art gallery in one slide.
        • Submit the finished Powerpoint presentation as an attachment (with your other attachments) to your email indicating that you have finished the exam.

 

 

1st Data Base:

 

        • Download the Computer Inventory file and open it in MS Access.
        • Sort the records according to brand and produce a report.
        • Sort the records according to location and produce a report.
        • Produce a total for the "Cost" field indicating the total value of the inventory.
        • Query the data base for all "Gateway" computers and produce a report.
        • Print hard copy of each report and submit to the ITEC Office.
        • Submit the revised data base with all queries, reports etc., as an attachment (with your other attachments) to your email indicating that you have finished the exam

 

 

2nd Word Processing and Data Base Exercise

 

        • Create a letter thanking each Foundation/Fund Administrator for their funding of the technology grant that their foundation has funded.
        • Use the computer grant sources data base file to create a mail merge for the letter.
        • Print hard copy of the letters and database record and submit with exam materials.
        • Submit copies as attachments (with your other attachments) to your email indicating that you have finished the exam
