There are three country categories: all countries (when the database includes at least 100 nations), regions (for example, the European Union, or former USSR countries, or "Newly Independent States"  -- or nations that are tied by economic, political, or cultural reasons, whether or not this relationship involves a formal agreement).  The third category includes resources for Individual countries

Examples of regions include the European Union (EU) and MERCOSUR.  Also, full text of selected regional trade and investment agreements.

If you wish to compare topics across a number of countries, it is better to start with a resource that contains all the countries you wish to compare (for example, the resources listed in the "all country" listings contain most nations.  If you are interested in European nations only, you might want to use the OECD (on the "International Organizations" page) or see the section on the EU on the Regions of the world page.

It is not recommended that the sources in the individual country category be used when comparing data among countries since each resource collects data differently. For a list of countries in each category, see the Country List page.
